8-11mm. Univoltine, with an extremely female-biased sex ratio. Larvae feed on bracken (Pteridium aquilinum) and on fern (Dryopteris filix-mas). The older larvae later chew deep into the bark of older Pinus trees. Occurs throughout Europe and North Africa, including Hungary.
