4-7 mm. Eurosiberian, polyphagous species, feeding on oaks (Quercus), less frequently beech (Fagus), hornbeam (Carpinus), hazel (Corylus) and alder (Alnus). The larvae feed under the bark of younger stems and branches, their presence indicated by unevenly raised marks on the surface of branches caused by the underlying larval tunnels. Common and widespread in Hungarian oak forests.
