12-22 mm. Occurs in Central and Southern Europe, east across the Crimea to the Caucasus. In Hungary relatively uncommon. Larvae develop in a range of broad-leaved trees. The females lay their eggs on dead trunks and thick branches, usually on unbarked wood. Adults fly in June and July.
