19-32 mm. Palaearctic species, rare in Hungary. Typically found in cool and humid forests in valleys in highland areas. Larvae develop in the dead wood (stems, stumps and branches) of a range of broad-leaved trees, favouring wood which is still hard. Adults can be found from June until late August on dead wood and on wood piles.
