13-22 mm. Occurs from Europe to Western Siberia. Not uncommon in mountain areas of Hungary. Develops and pupates under the bark of a range of broad-leaved trees, and occasionally conifers. Overwinters as an adult, can be seen from April until August on dead stumps, stems and wood piles.
