16-32 mm. Mediterranean species, whose range reaches as far East as Turkestan. Rare in Hungary. Larvae develop for several years in dried out trunks and branches of a range of broad-leaved trees, pupating in the heartwood. Adults hide on the foodplants during the day, becoming active at dusk. Attracted to lights.
