7-13 mm. The adults emerge in June-July. The larva is 14-15 mm long and white. The larval tunnel is similar to that of the previous species, but differs in that the tunnel contains straight sections. The larva feeds on the wood and does not "cultivate" fungus. Found in dead trees and logs of oak (Quercus). Widespread in Europe and also common in Hungary.
