2-3 mm. Main host is pine (Pinus), occasionally occurs on spruce (Picea) and larch (Larix). The 3-5 branched egg gallery, up to 10 cm long, is excavated into the sapwood. The larval tunnels are of variable length. Mediterranean species, rare in the Carpathian basin and found mainly at higher elevations.
