Lachnellula Canker Lachnellula flavovirens (Bres.) Dennis From: Field Guide to Diseases and Insect Pests of Idaho and Montana Forests, USDA Forest Service Northern Region, Publication Number R1-89-54 Host. – Western larch seedlings and saplings. Distribution. – Frequent in parts of western Montana; may occur elsewhere within the range of the host. Damage. – Stem and branch cankers girdle and kill tree top, branches, or entire tree.
Similar damages. – Other fungi can cause stem cankers on larch; fruiting is required to differentiate. Animal damage may result in girdling young trees but bark is removed by animals, whereas it remains in place with Lachnellula canker. References. Funk, A. 1981. Parasitic microfungi of western trees.
