Univoltine, hosts are the Picea species. Caterpillar mines inside the needle, overwinters in it and later spin the needles together. Native to North America, was first recorded in 1962 in Europe (Germany). Spread into different directions in Europe and now is common in most countries where its host is present. From Hungary it was first recorded in the 1970s. Locally can be very abundant and can cause significant needle loss.
