Stigmella aceris (Frey)
Lepidoptera: Nepticulidae

Has 3 generations per year in Hungary (V-IX.). Food plants are the maples (Acer spp.), particularly A. campestris, A. platanoides and A. tataricum. The larva is green, makes serpentine mines on the upper surface of the leaves. The faeces fills the first part of the mines but the final part of the mine is free of it. The oval shaped cocoon is white, pupates in the soil. Widespread in whole Europe, and common in Hungary too.
