Tischeria ekebladella Bjerkander Bivoltine (VI-X.). Hosts are all Quercus species (including the North American Q. rubra) and Castanea. The irregular, large mine is on the upper surface, with little scattered faeces in it. The larva is yellowish brown with brown head. Pupates within the mine in a circular, conspicuous bright white cocoon. Within the cocoon the last larval skin can be seen near the pupa. Usually more than one mine can be found on one leaf. Occurs in Europe, North Africa an Asia Minor. One of the commonest and most abundant oak leaf miner in Hungary. Most often invades young seedlings and sprouts. Occasionally - particularly in southern part of the country - produces outbreaks and cause considerable leaf loss. |
