9-14 mm. Eurosiberian species. Develops for two years. The adults can be found in June and July. Foodplants are oaks (Quercus), less frequently beech (Fagus) and sweet chestnut (Castanea). Common in older stems and thicker branches. The vertical larval tunnels can be found in the inner bark. Pupates in the bark. Widespread and common in Hungary, abundant at some locations.
