2-3 mm. The mating chamber is easily recognisable. The egg galleries are multi-branched, star-like. The branches bend toward the horizontal. The larval tunnels are short and loosely packed. Host is fir (Abies), occasionally larch (Larix). European species, but rather rare in the Carpathian basin.
