7-13 mm. Eurosiberian species. Develops for one or two years. Main foodplants are Pinus sylvestris and P. nigra. Very common in dying trees infected by Heterobasidion annosum. Adults fly from late May until August. Females oviposit into bark crevices. The flat larval tunnels can be found in the bark and the sapwood. The fully grown larva is ca. 20-25 mm long. Pupates in the bark or shallowly in the wood. Widespread and common in Hungary.
