8-14 mm. Mediterranean species. Larvae develop in stems and thicker branches of oaks (mainly Quercus pubescens and Qu. robur). They chew tunnels in the very hard xylem. The fully developed larvae pupate and become adult by the end of the summer and overwinter. They emerge from May until late June and can be found on the foodplant. First recorded in Hungary during the 1970s North of Lake Balaton, and later found in Börzsöny mountain and in Fót.
