8-20 mm. Holarctic species, introduced almost everywhere in building timber. Common in Hungary. Originally native to highland conifer forests. Larvae feed and pupate in the heartwood of conifers, where several generations may develop in the same piece. Infestation by this species is demonstrated by small piles of wood dust and frass and by emergence holes. Adults fly in June and July and can be found on building timber, natural dead wood and wood piles.
