13-24 mm. Holomediterranean species. A characteristic species of oak woodlands in warm habitats. Larvae develop in branches of oaks (Quercus) and sweet chestnut (Castanea sativa), especially those already ring-barked by the jewel beetle Coraebus florentinus. Adults can be found from May to July on branches of the foodplant, on wood piles and occasionally on flowers.
