18-22 mm. European species. Lives in closed, cold, humid, old forests in mountainous regions. Larvae develop in wet decaying wood (stumps, hollows in standing stems, under the loose bark of stems lying on the ground). Swarm high in the air in sunny, warm, still weather. Rare in Hungary.
