17-21 mm. European species. Lives in closed forests on mountains. Prefers cold and humid valleys and gorges. Larval development is similar to that of the following species. Adults swarm in sunny, warm and still weather. The adults can mainly be seen on flowers of Sambucus. Not rare in some places.
