Its most typical habitats are old and undisturbed willow groves, but it also occurs in several different forest types. The larvae most frequently develop in decaying wood in hollows of dead trees. Adults feed on the wound fluids in the crown. They have a characteristic smell of apricots. Rare in Hungary.
