17-32 mm. Eurosiberian species. The larvae develop in decaying stumps and logs lying on the ground. The adults live in closed forests, but also can be found in forest margins, gardens and fruit orchards. Occasionally feed on fluids of freshly cut logs and branches. They become active around sunset, and fly mainly in hot and humid periods. Common in Hungary.
