2.5-3.5 mm. Usually univoltine, but in some years can be bivoltine. The egg gallery is horizontal, 6-10 cm long. The ca. 4 cm long larval tunnels are dense. Lives mainly in stems and thicker branches of ash (Fraxinus). The maturation feeding of young adults cause "ash roses". Widespread and common in Hungary, and generally over the whole of Europe.
