14-20 mm. Found throughout Europe through Asia Minor to Syria and Iran. In Hungary common in mountain and hillside forests. The larvae develop in stumps and fallen wood of many broad-leaved and coniferous trees. Adults are found from June to August on flowers of herbs and shrubs in clearings and at forest margins.
